Designed by David Irwin, Feld Side Table is a beautifully simple solid oak table whose generous proportions and softly curved edges give it a calm, almost architectural presence.

Its name comes from the Old English feld — open country or unencumbered ground — and the design shares something of that openness. A broad square top sits above an integrated low shelf, providing useful storage without disturbing the table's clear silhouette. The shelf itself takes a subtle cue from the traditional Victorian pot board dresser and the practical storage space beneath. 

At home beside a bed, sofa or armchair, Feld works equally well as a generous bedside table or as an occasional table within a living space. Pair with the Hardy Chair, or explore more furniture by Another Country.

  • Feld is an excellent example of how a very simple piece of furniture can acquire real character through proportion and detail.

    We particularly like its generosity. At 500mm square it has enough surface to function properly beside a bed or sofa, while the low shelf gives books and everyday objects somewhere to live without introducing drawers, doors or unnecessary complexity.

    The softly curved edges are important too. They temper what could otherwise be quite a formal, architectural piece and make the solid oak feel wonderfully tactile.

    It is quiet, useful furniture with nothing superfluous — exactly the sort of piece we believe becomes more valuable rather than less noticeable through everyday use.

  • Feld takes its name from the Old English word feld, meaning open country, unencumbered ground or arable land. The name reflects the openness and clarity David Irwin has brought to the design. 

    Made entirely from solid oak, the table combines a broad, gently curved top with a low integrated shelf. That lower shelf takes inspiration from the Victorian pot board dresser, where an open shelf close to the floor provided practical storage for pots and other everyday objects. 

    The same idea has been distilled here into a much more contemporary piece: somewhere for books, magazines and bedside essentials that leaves the upper surface relatively uncluttered.

    Feld was designed alongside the larger Feld Coffee Table and shares its warm timber, rounded detailing and practical lower shelf.

  • Solid Oak / Clear Oil & Wax

    Feld Side Table is crafted from solid oak and finished with clear oil and wax, allowing the grain, tone and tactile character of the timber to remain central to the design. 

    The traditional oil-and-wax treatment seals the pores of the timber and provides water-repellent protection against everyday wear while retaining a natural rather than heavily coated appearance. One of the benefits of this finish is that minor damage can be maintained and refinished over time. 

    Timber is a natural material and variations in grain, colour and character should be expected and celebrated as part of each piece.

    Designed by David Irwin, Feld Side Table explores how a small number of carefully considered elements can create a useful and characterful piece of everyday furniture.

    Its broad solid oak top is softened by gently curved edges, while an integrated shelf sits low within the frame. The latter draws on the practical lower storage found in traditional Victorian pot board dressers, translating an established furniture typology into a considerably quieter contemporary form. 

    The table was developed alongside the larger Feld Coffee Table, with both pieces sharing the same emphasis on generous surfaces, rounded edges and open storage. 

    Made in Portugal from solid oak and finished with clear oil and wax, Feld allows the material itself to provide much of its character. The construction and detailing remain deliberately restrained, resulting in furniture that can sit comfortably in both bedroom and living spaces.
