The Sled Sideboard captures much of what we admire about Barnby Design: an apparently simple piece in which proportion, material and detail have been carefully resolved.
We particularly love the way the solid timber base rises up the face of the cabinet to become the means of opening the doors. Rather than adding handles, Robert Barnby has allowed the construction itself to provide the detail.
It is quiet, useful furniture with enough character to reward a closer look — beautifully suited to the fōrm&blōm collection.

The Sled Sideboard provides four separate storage compartments, each with an adjustable internal shelf.
Each piece is made to order by Barnby Design in Herefordshire.
As timber is a natural material, variations in grain, tone and figuring are inherent to each piece and form part of its individual character.
Made to order · estimated lead-time 8–12 weeks.

Designed by Robert Barnby and made by Barnby Design in its workshop in the Wye Valley, Herefordshire.
The Sled Sideboard takes its name and character from the solid timber frame beneath the cabinet. Rather than stopping at the base, the frame continues vertically across the front of the piece, creating an integrated means of opening the doors without conventional applied handles.
It reflects Barnby Design's wider approach to furniture: careful consideration of proportion, balance and purpose, with details refined rather than added simply for effect.
Barnby Design was founded by Robert Barnby in 2012. Read more about Robert and the Barnby Design workshop.
