Essentially a two-person seat, the ‘Loveseat’ most likely originated from the need to accommodate the wider dresses that were in fashion towards the end of the 1700s. They began to be marketed as ‘loveseats’ in the early 1800s.
Not to be confused with the tête-à-tête, also a two-person seat (arranged in an S shape) conceived for face to face conversation, also known as a kissing bench, most likely originating from France that became popular during the Victorian era, albeit in an upholstered form.
Designed by David Irwin, the Hardy Loveseat works well as a standalone piece, part of a seating arrangement or tucked around a dining table. Can be made in different sizes and finishes on request.

We use a traditional wood oil finish followed by wax, applied by even application to the timber planks. This finish seals the pores of the timber, enhancing the natural structure of the wood and forming a water repellent protection against everyday wear and tear. This finish deepens the natural colour of the timber. One important benefit of this finish is the relative ease with which damage is repaired, as the timber can be reapplied with wax at any moment.
