Ida immediately appealed to us for the strength and clarity of its pattern. There is something distinctly architectural about its repeating geometry, yet the natural wool and woven construction prevent it from ever feeling hard or overly precise.

We particularly like the balance between tradition and modernity. Its roots lie in rölakan weaving, but the scale, colour and rhythm give Ida a confidently contemporary presence. It can anchor a room without overwhelming it, bringing pattern, warmth and structure to otherwise quiet interiors.

Like all Kasthall rugs in our collection, Ida is chosen not simply as a decorative surface but as a considered part of the room.

Ida is a woven rug designed by Kasthall Design Studio and produced at Kasthall's mill in Kinna, Sweden.

The design is based around a 60 cm pattern repeat. A detailed drawing is followed line by line at the loom, with each change of colour manually guided by the weaver – giving the finished rug its distinctive rhythm and crafted character.

Ida is available in a range of standard sizes as well as being made to measure for individual rooms and projects.

Standard sizes: 140 × 190 · 165 × 250 · 195 × 310 · 240 × 370 · 300 × 430 · 335 × 490 cm.

Custom sizes: widths from 140–335 cm and lengths from 130–1,000 cm. Due to Ida's repeating woven pattern, custom lengths are available in 60 cm increments.

As each rug is made using natural materials and craft-based manufacturing processes, finished dimensions may vary by up to ±5%. If a particular maximum or minimum finished dimension is critical to your space, please let us know when ordering.

Each combines several tones within the woven pattern, allowing colour to shift across the rug while retaining the strong underlying geometry of the design.

For woven rugs wider than 200 cm or larger than 6 m², Kasthall recommends adding backing. This treatment is applied to the underside of the rug to improve stability and help extend its life.

A separate rug underlay can also help keep the rug securely in position, protect the floor beneath and reduce movement and wear.

Designed by Kasthall Design Studio, Ida draws on Scandinavian and wider weaving traditions, with particular reference to the flat-woven rölakan technique.

Its geometric composition begins as a detailed drawing that is followed line by line at the loom. Each change of colour is manually guided, demanding the weaver's continual attention as the pattern develops. The result combines the precision and repetition of a drawn geometry with the subtle variation that comes from natural materials and skilled hand-guided making.

Each rug is woven to order at Kasthall's mill in Kinna, Sweden, where the company has been producing rugs since 1889.

Regular vacuuming is the best way to remove everyday dirt and help preserve the appearance and structure of your rug. Spills and stains should be dealt with promptly and appropriate professional cleaning used when deeper cleaning is required.

As Ida is made from natural fibres, small variations in colour, texture and dimensions are part of the character of the material and may occur between yarn batches.

Kasthall provides a 10-year residential warranty for its woven and tufted rugs.
