The Syd Chair is a study in architectural poise and tactile warmth. Taking its cues from the bold, emotive forms of Luis Barragán, the design eschews traditional slenderness in favor of a confident, substantial silhouette. Crafted from solid ash, the frame’s thick sections and clean geometry create a sense of permanence and “spirit of place” within the home.
The pale, open grain of the ash is beautifully offset by either a hand-woven paper cord seat or one of leather. This natural texture provides a soft, ergonomic counterpoint to the chair’s structural weight, offering a seat that conforms to the body while remaining remarkably durable. Honest, purposeful, and deeply rooted in the materials, the Syd Chair is a modern archetype that brings a quiet, sculptural authority to the dining table.

We use a traditional wood oil finish followed by wax, applied by even application to the timber planks. This finish seals the pores of the timber, enhancing the natural structure of the wood and forming a water repellent protection against everyday wear and tear. This finish deepens the natural colour of the timber. One important benefit of this finish is the relative ease with which damage is repaired, as the timber can be reapplied with wax at any moment.
