This modern take on the classic rocking chair will grace any living room, conservatory, porch or nursery, and is a true heirloom piece.
Two chair typologies from the 19th century, Thomas Hardy’s birth century, inspired the design of its Hardy Chair sibling: firstly the Captain’s chair, originally a low-backed wooden armchair and secondly the Smokers bow, a low back Windsor, often used in smoking rooms, public houses, barbers shops and cottages.
Old Furniture, a poem by Dorset born Thomas Hardy, after which the range is named, is an ode to beauty of furniture being handed down the generations, and David Irwin’s Hardy Rocker is a classic in the making.

We use a traditional wood oil finish followed by wax, applied by even application to the timber planks. This finish seals the pores of the timber, enhancing the natural structure of the wood and forming a water repellent protection against everyday wear and tear. This finish deepens the natural colour of the timber. One important benefit of this finish is the relative ease with which damage is repaired, as the timber can be reapplied with wax at any moment.
