Originally inspired by beds made for the famed River Cottage Farmhouse in Devon, Cottage Bed is a study in simplicity. A substantial solid timber frame is paired with a tall, distinctive headboard, creating a bed with real presence while retaining the straightforward construction and material honesty characteristic of Another Country.

Available in four UK sizes, from Single to Super King, Cottage Bed can be specified in natural oak or lacquered colour. The latter recalls the yellow and blue beds originally created for River Cottage and gives the deliberately simple form an entirely different character. 

Part of Another Country's Series TWO, Cottage Bed works beautifully with simple timber bedside furniture and natural textiles to create a bedroom that feels considered without becoming overly styled.

  • Cottage Bed appeals to us because it demonstrates how little a good piece of furniture actually needs. Its form is remarkably simple, yet the generous timber frame and tall headboard give it enough presence to establish the character of an entire bedroom.

    We particularly like that the design works in two quite different ways. In natural oak it is calm, tactile and understated; specified in colour, the same simple geometry becomes playful and much more individual.

    Most importantly, it feels like a proper piece of furniture rather than simply somewhere to put a mattress — robust, beautifully made and capable of becoming more familiar with years of use.

  • Cottage Bed takes its inspiration from beds Another Country originally made for River Cottage Farmhouse in Devon. Those pieces included colourful yellow and blue versions, an idea retained in the contemporary Cottage Bed alongside the quieter natural oak finish. 

    The design is deliberately straightforward: a substantial timber bed frame supporting a tall 1150mm headboard. Its simplicity allows the material — or, in the lacquered versions, the colour — to become the defining feature.

    Four standard sizes correspond to UK Single, Double, King and Super King mattresses, while Another Country can also accommodate non-standard requirements through custom orders.

  • Oak / Natural
    Solid oak and oak veneer, finished with natural oil and wax to retain the warmth, grain and tactile character of the timber.

    Ash / Colour
    Solid ash and ash veneer with a lacquered finish, bringing colour to the bed while retaining the clarity of its simple form. 

    Timber is a natural material and variations in grain, colour and character should be expected and celebrated as part of each piece.

    Cottage Bed grew from furniture originally created by Another Country for River Cottage Farmhouse in Devon. Its straightforward construction and strong proportions reflect the maker's wider interest in furniture whose character comes from material, usefulness and construction rather than unnecessary decoration. 

    The frame combines solid timber with timber veneer and is designed around a particularly generous 1150mm-high headboard. In natural oak, the oil-and-wax finish allows the grain and tonal variation of the wood to remain visible; lacquered ash introduces colour while preserving the clarity of the underlying form.

    Cottage Bed sits within Another Country's Series TWO, a collection characterised by cleaner, more angular forms than Series ONE and influenced by Japanese and Scandinavian furniture alongside the pale timber associated with contemporary Belgian craft. 

    Made in Portugal, the bed is designed to be assembled and dismantled, making a substantial piece of solid timber furniture practical to deliver and move.
