Hardy Desk has the presence of a beautifully made piece of furniture rather than something that belongs exclusively to an office.
We particularly like its proportions. At 1250mm wide it provides a generous working surface without becoming an oversized workstation, making it equally appropriate for a dedicated study, the corner of a living room or even a bedroom.
The single drawer is another detail we appreciate. There is just enough concealed storage to clear away the everyday clutter of working at a desk, without allowing storage to dominate the design.
Most importantly, it carries the warmth and tactile character of the wider Hardy family. This is a desk intended to remain part of the home long after today's technology sitting on top of it has changed.

Designed by David Irwin, Hardy Desk forms part of the wider Hardy Collection, which grew from the original Hardy Chair designed in 2015 to celebrate Another Country's fifth anniversary.
The collection takes inspiration from the history and landscape of Dorset and from nineteenth-century furniture typologies. During his research, Irwin encountered Thomas Hardy's poem Old Furniture — a reflection on furniture passed from one generation to another — which became an important reference for the collection's emphasis on quality and longevity.
Hardy Desk translates those ideas into a compact working table. Its solid oak construction gives it the permanence of domestic furniture, while a single integrated drawer provides practical storage without compromising the clarity of the form.

Solid Oak / Natural Oil & Wax
Hardy Desk is crafted from solid certified oak and finished with natural oil and wax, enhancing the grain, warmth and tactile quality of the timber while providing protection against everyday use.
The oil-and-wax finish allows the oak to retain a natural appearance rather than creating a heavily coated surface, and can be maintained and locally refinished over time.
Timber is a natural material and variations in grain, colour and character should be expected and celebrated as part of each piece.
For guidance on looking after solid timber and natural finishes, see our Care, Assembly & Maintenance guide.

Width: 1250mm
Depth: 650mm
Height: 725mmStorage: One integrated drawer
This is worth describing as a compact desk, but not a small desk. A 650mm depth gives it a proper working surface, while the 1250mm width remains manageable within a domestic room.

Designer: David Irwin
Maker: Another Country
Collection: Hardy CollectionHardy Desk extends the design language developed by David Irwin for the wider Hardy family into a piece of furniture for working, writing and studying.
The collection grew from Irwin's original Hardy Chair and his exploration of nineteenth-century furniture, traditional Windsor chair-making and the Dorset landscape. Rather than reproducing historical forms, the collection distils those references through softly rounded corners, tapered timber joints and robust contemporary proportions.
In the desk, those principles are expressed particularly quietly. A generous solid oak work surface sits above a restrained frame, while a single drawer is integrated beneath the top to provide useful storage without visually weighing down the piece.
Made from certified solid oak and finished with natural oil and wax, Hardy Desk is conceived with the same emphasis on longevity that runs throughout the collection — furniture intended to remain useful, repairable and relevant through years of everyday use.
